The World Heart Federation has set aside September 29 every year to be celebrated as World Heart Day.
The World Heart Day was founded in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death claiming 17.3 million lives each year and expected to rise to 23 million in 2030.
The day helps to create awareness that at least 80% of premature deaths from Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) could be avoided if four main risk factors are controlled namely;
Tobacco use.
Unhealthy diet.
Physical inactivity.
Harmful use of alcohol.

The theme for 2016 is ‘Power your Life.’ The heart powers the body which allows us to love, laugh, socialize and live life to the fullest, hence the need to look after it.
Failure to take care of our hearts could lead to risks of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), which includes heart disease and stroke.
Luckily, though Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the World’s number one killer, it can be prevented by simple behavioural changes like eating healthy and drinking more water, taking part in regular exercises and quitting smoking.
Therefore, for today, let us all commit ourselves towards keeping our hearts charged by engaging in walks, runs, sporting events , concerts, public talks, screenings and other activities geared towards enlightening our people.
As an association, we will endeavour to live up to our responsibility as advocates for better health conditions for our people.
Lets power our life through positive behavioural changes
Happy World Heart Day 2016.
